Matt Jaffee

Distinguished Engineer

Matt Jaffee is the Distinguished Engineer at Molecula and has been with the company since its inception. He works closely with the engineering team and customers, prospects, and partners to keep a pulse on the industry and help inform the product’s technical direction.

He has spoken at Golang Meetups, been a guest on several podcasts including FLOSS Weekly and GoTime FM, and presented at OSCON about Pilosa and the power and flexibility of independent indexes.

As an undergraduate, Jaffee studied Astrophysics before moving into Computer Science and obtaining a Master’s degree in that field with a focus on software defined networking and distributed systems. He split from the PhD program to to pursue practical software engineering experience, and got exposed to everything from Javascript to Clojure to CUDA working at a small government contractor in the D.C. area.

In 2014, he moved to Austin to join Umbel and within a week, fell in love with an early version of Pilosa which was just being deployed. He was thrilled when, after leading the Platform team for 2 years, Pilosa was able to spin out as a separate company and take on a life of its own, leading to the birth of Molecula!
